Catholic Family Services Supports Proposition A

Catholic Family Services Supports Proposition A

Proposition A (the ½ cent sales tax for Metro) has been getting a lot of attention lately -- in the paper and in general conversations – and while there are a lot of important economic reasons to support it, there are even more “human” reasons to support it.   Which is why Catholic Family Services along with the Children’s Services Coalition (CSC), a group or 40 + social service agencies in St.

Love and Logic Parenting Classes

Being a successful parent in today's world is no easy feat.  If you have noticed that getting your children to do their homework is a constant battle, they don't listen when you ask them to do something, or they just seem to be giving you more attitude than you deserve Catholic Family Services may be able to help.

Nine couples honored at Family Life Awards dinner

Nearly a dozen Catholic families were recognized in November, 2010 at the 19th annual Family Life Awards dinner for their contributions to the community.

Sponsored by Catholic Family Services, the Nov. 7 event celebrated the importance of family life and recognized the contributions of those who have made a difference in the lives of area families. Organizers note that promoting a rich family life is a key element in raising healthy and successful children, leading happy and productive lives and building strong and thriving communities.

Catholic Family Services is praising the success of a recently passed sales tax initiative in Franklin County that provides services for children.

The initiative, called Putting Kids First, was passed by voters in Franklin County in November 2008. The one-fourth-cent sales tax increase provides funding for mental health, substance-abuse and child-abuse prevention services for children and teens ages 19 and younger. Funding is administered by the Franklin County Children and Families Community Resource Board.

Safety net for St. Louis County kids 'desperately needed'

March 28, 2008 by Joseph Kenny, Review Staff Writer. The teenage boy in St. Louis County had struggled with his mental health. Eventually he committed suicide. Recently, his mother told supporters of the Putting Kids First initiative in St. Louis County that she feels she and others may have known how to look for signs of the impending suicide if they had access to services they needed.

In the early 1990s, Missouri passed a law allowing counties to establish local community children’s service funds to provide mental health services to children from birth to age 19. Since then, several counties have established a tax for the fund, including Lincoln, St. Charles and Jefferson counties and the City of St. Louis. It is desperately needed in St. Louis County, according to Catholic social workers who seek to meet the needs of children.
