Youth Opportunity Program (YOP) Tax Credits

Catholic Family Services now is offering Youth Opportunities Program (YOP) tax credits. Make a meaningful contribution to a quality mental healthcare agency that helps thousands of troubled metro-area young people each year. Purchasing these tax credits is a WIN for you and a WIN for many St. Louis-area children!

Who qualifies? Anyone who pays Missouri State Income Tax, including individuals, and donates at least $100 to Catholic Family Services in the form of check, credit card, and/or appreciated stocks.

How will Catholic Family Services’ clients benefit? Your contribution will help disengaged and at-risk youth find safety and stability through Catholic Family Services counseling and outreach programs.

How will you benefit from these programs? You may apply your charitable donation to your federal and state income tax returns and receive an additional 50 percent Missouri State Tax Credit. Tax credits may be applied to the tax year in which the donation was made, or at any time in the next five tax years.

Contribution Example

Donation   $1,000
Tax Credit (50%) – $  500
Federal Income Tax Deduction (28%) – $  280
State Income Tax Deduction (6%) – $    60
Estimated Cost*   $   160

*The above example shows cost savings in the year the gift is made for someone in the 28% federal tax bracket who itemizes on their federal and state tax returns. Individuals in lower or higher tax brackets and those subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax would have slightly different tax savings. A gift of appreciated securities also would provide additional tax benefits related to avoiding capital gains. The above example is not intended to represent tax advice. Please consult your tax advisor to learn how tax credits will benefit you specifically.
